Several former local high school football players were selected in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft on Thursday night. The event was held at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
University of Alabama wide receiver Calvin Ridley was picked by the Atlanta Falcons with the 26th overall pick. He played the past three seasons with the Crimson Tide and helped the school win the two College Football Playoff National Championships in 2015 and 2017. Ridley played with the Monarch Knights while in high school. He scored on a touchdown reception against the Piper Bengals in his final play with the school in 2014.
University of Georgia running back Sony Michel was selected by the defending AFC Champion New England Patriots with the 31st overall pick in the draft. He was with the Bulldogs for the last four years. Michel played high school football with the American Heritage Patriots in Plantation. He helped them win the FHSAA Class 5A state title in 2013.
Quarterback Lamar Jackson was chosen by the Baltimore Ravens as the 32nd overall selection. He won the Heisman Trophy in 2016 with the University of Louisville Cardinals. Jackson led the Boynton Beach Tigers to consecutive FHSAA playoff appearances in 2013 and 2014.
