Marlins Escape Kershaw and Dodgers

The Miami Marlins finished a nine-game road trip as they surprised the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-6 at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday. It was the first time that Clayton Kershaw pitched against the Marlins since September 9, 2016 when he opposed Jose Fernandez. Marlins starting pitcher Trevor Richards struck out 10 batters and allowed one hit in 4 2/3 innings.
Miami(7-17), who won consecutive games for the first time this season, had a great chance to score in the fourth inning. The Marlins loaded the bases with no out, however Kershaw would get out of the jam unscathed.
The Marlins got some production with a two-out rally in the top of the fifth. Justin Bour and Cameron Maybin both walked. Miguel Rojas then connected on the first pitch and lifted a three-run homer that bounced off the left-field foul pole for a 3-0 lead. Kershaw pitched five innings and gave up three runs, five hits along with a career-tying six walks.
In the sixth inning, the Fish were able to expand their margin to 4-0. J.T. Realmuto blasted a solo home run to left-center field on a 3-2 pitch with two out against Daniel Hudson.
Los Angeles(11-12) broke the shutout in the bottom of the sixth facing Merandy Gonzalez. Corey Seager scored on a two-out single by Joc Pederson into right field.
J.B. Schuck led off the eighth inning with a single to center. After Derek Dietrich reached base on a fielder's choice, Realmuto hit his second home run of the contest to open up a 6-1 gap for Miami. He smashed a two-run homer to left field on a 2-1 count versus Scott Alexander for his fourth round-tripper of the season.
The Dodgers cut the deficit to 6-3 in the bottom of the frame. Cody Bellinger was able to beat the shift with a double into left field with two outs. Matt Kemp came up and cracked a two-run homer to center field on a 2-1 pitch.
A combination of bad fielding by the Dodgers in the top of the ninth gave the Marlins another two runs. Dietrich reached first on a throwing error by Chase Utley with two out for Rojas and Schuck to cross the plate.
Kike Hernandez began the ninth for Los Angeles when a line drive went by Lewis Brinson to the center-field fence for a triple. He would then score on a ground out by pinch-hitter Kyle Farmer to short. Later in the frame, Seager picked up a two-out single into left field and Yasmani Grandal followed with a two-run homer to right field on a 2-1 count. to make it 8-6.
