District winners in South Florida were decided over the past weekend for the upcoming 2018 FHSAA playoffs. Schools that played in classifications from Class 5A up to Class 8A qualified for a top four seed in the region.
Cardinal Gibbons captured the District 16-5A title and finished ahead of two-time defending state champion American Heritage.
Class 6A in South Florida had Carol City take the tough District 16 over Miami Central and the defending state champion Miami Northwestern. Dillard was able to wrap up District 15.

Dwyer picked up the District 13 crown and St. Thomas Aquinas easily won District 14 in Class 7A. McArthur edged out District 15 and Doral Academy landed District 16.
Class 8A state finalist Atlantic ended up first in District 10, Palm Beach Central topped District 9 and Deerfield Beach took District 11 in Region 3. Plantation, Miramar and Western finished in a three-way tie in District 12 and the district winner will be decided by which school has the highest playoff points in the standings after games next week.
Region 4 of Dade County schools had Hialeah in District 13, Columbus in District 14, Belen Jesuit in District 15 and Southridge in District 16.
