The Virginia Cavaliers surprised the Miami Hurricanes 16-13 on Saturday night at Scott Stadium. The Canes will not play again until October 26 against Boston College.
Virginia(4-2, 2-1) struck first at 13:48 of the second quarter on a 26-yard field goal by Brian Delaney. They made it 10-0 when running back Jordan Ellis rushed up the middle for a seven-yard touchdown at the 11:19 mark.
The Hurricanes chipped away at the lead on their next two possessions. Bubba Baxa kicked a 47-yard field goal at 7:22 and a 28-yard field goal with 3:14 remaining.
The Cavaliers got Delaney to connect with a 46-yard field goal with four seconds left in the first half. He later added a 32-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter at 10:53 for a 16-6 lead.
Miami(5-2, 2-1) finally reached the end zone with 3:13 left in the fourth. Quarterback Malik Rosier was able to run the ball from 11 yards away.
