The Miami Dolphins blew a 17-point lead in the second half and lost to the Cincinnati Bengals 27-17 on Sunday at Paul Brown Stadium. The Dolphins had their two-game lead in the AFC East Division evaporate in the last two weeks and are now tied with the New England Patriots for first place.
The first half belonged to Miami(3-3) as they got out 14-0. Quarterback Ryan Tannenhill threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to running back Kenyan Drake at the 7:28 mark of the second quarter. Jakeem Grant ran back a punt return 71 yards for a score with 40 seconds left in the second.
Both clubs added three points during the third quarter. Jason Sanders made a 42-yard field goal at 9:30 for a Fins 17-point margin. The Bengals began to cut into the lead with 5:12 to go in the third as Randy Bullock kicked a 51-yard field goal.
Cincinnati(4-1) compiled 24 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to take the contest. Quarterback Andy Dalton connected an 18-yard pass to running back Joe Mixon on the right hash marks for a touchdown on the first play of the quarter.
Tannenhill would throw an interception off the helmet of one of his offensive lineman and it was returned by Michael Johnson for a 22-yard touchdown at 11:51 to tie it 17-17. Bullock gave them the lead on a short 20-yard field goal with 3:33 left. Tannenhill then fumbled the ball on an attempted pass attempt and Sam Hubbard ran it back 19 yards into the end zone with 2:46 remaining.
