The Class 8A state finalist Atlantic Eagles host the John I. Leonard Lancers at Atlantic Stadium on Thursday night. The Eagles are alone on top of District 10 while the Lancers are in the middle of the pack.
John I. Leonard(1-4, 1-1) have shown improvement this year and are not fighting in the cellar of the district. They stopped a four-game losing streak last week with a 47-6 victory over Spanish River. The Lancers have been outscored 166-95 in their five games this season.
Their quarterback Jadiel Cruz can launch the ball anywhere on the field. He intends to find wide receivers Jonel Dieujuste, Ahmad Orange, Cedric Evans and Dorrien Haskins for pass completions.
Atlantic(6-0, 3-0) stands in first place in the FHSAA playoff points standings for Region 3 and could have home-field advantage throughout the postseason should they remain undefeated. The Eagles ran the gauntlet with wins over Palm Beach Central, Dwyer, Pahokee, Park Vista, Spanish River and Santaluces. They have outscored their opponents 192-48 this year and compiled two shutouts.
The Eagles have Kalani Ilimaleoata to call the signals on offense for them. He has several wide receivers to throw the ball to that includes Kam Williams, Tyrese Blue and Tyler Burke.
