The 2021 NFL Draft continued on Friday night in Cleveland. Several South Florida high school football players were selected in the second round.
It all started with defensive back Tyson Campbell taken by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the second round with the first pick. Campbell helped the American Heritage Patriots win three FHSAA Class 5A state championships in 2014, 2016 and 2017. He went on to attend the University of Georgia for three years.
Wide receiver Elijah Moore was selected next by the New York Jets. Moore played with the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders and captured three consecutive FHSAA Class 7A state titles from 2014 until 2016. He went on to play college football with Ole Miss.
Florida State University defensive back Asante Samuel Jr. was chosen by the Los Angeles Chargers with the 47th overall pick. He won three FHSAA Class 7A state championship with St. Thomas Aquinas in 2014, 2015 and 2016. His father once played in the National Football League for 11 seasons and was a two-time Super Bowl champion with the New England Patriots.
Chatarius "Tutu" Atwell was taken 57th overall by the Los Angeles Rams. He mainly played quarterback with the Miami Northwestern Bulls and captured the FHSAA Class 6A state championship in 2017. He was switched to wide receiver at the University of Louisville and stayed there for three years.
