Miami(1-2) opened up a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Jesus Aguilar drove in Miguel Rojas on a sacrifice fly to center field.
Tampa Bay(2-1) claimed the lead 2-1 during the top of the second inning. Mike Zunino smacked a two-run homer to left field on a 3-2 pitch. Yandy Diaz was able to score in front of him on the play.
The Marlins evened it up 2-2 in the bottom of the frame. Chad Wallach singled into right field to score Jon Berti.
The Fish regained the lead 3-2 during the third inning. Garrett Copper walloped a solo home run to left field on a 0-2 count.
In the fourth inning, Miami extended it to a two-run margin. Jazz Chisholm Jr. was able to score on a sacrifice fly by Wallach to right field.
The Rays compiled four runs in the top of the fifth and overtook the Marlins 6-4. Manuel Margot got a base hit to right field which scored Mike Brosseau. Joey Wendle followed with a single into left field which brought in Austin Meadows. Diaz came up next and picked up a two-run double to right for Wendle and Margot to cross the plate.
Miami added two runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie it 6-6. Aguilar drove in Starling Marte with a double to right field. Cooper then got on base due to a fielding error by Meadows which scored Aguilar.
The Marlins loaded the bases during the seventh inning and eventually scored three runs for a 9-6 lead. Cooper first singled into right field to score Rojas. Jon Berti later had a two-run single to right with Marte and Aguilar scoring.
In the eighth inning, Tampa Bay cut it to 9-7. Aguilar made a fielding error during a Willie Adames at-bat and Wendle reached home.
The Fish extended their lead up to 12-7 with another rally in the bottom of the eighth. Adam Duvall got his first home run with his new club as he crushed the first pitch over the left-center field wall. Marte later tripled into deep center to score Rojas. Cooper followed with an RBI-double to left and Marte crossed the plate.
