The Florida Panthers held off the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-3 at Amalie Arena on Saturday night. The Panthers completed their longest road trip of the regular season with a 2-3-1 record. Sam Bennett played in his first game with the Panthers since he was traded from the Calgary Flames and had two assists.
Florida(28-12-5) jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the first period. Newcomer Brandon Montour scored at the 8:41 mark and Patric Hornqvist added a power-play tally at 12: 31.
Tampa Bay(29-13-2) cut it to 2-1 with 6:20 left in the frame as Brayden Point put in his 18th goal of the year. The Cats made it a two-goal margin again when Jonathan Huberdeau scored his 15th goal of the season with eight seconds left in the first.
In the second period, Frank Vatrano made it 4-1 on his 15th goal of the campaign with 2:26 remaining. The Lightning struck back with 45 seconds to go as Erik Cernak got his third tally.
It became 4-3 at the 1:53 mark of the third period. Mathieu Joseph found the net for the Bolts with his 11th goal this season.
The Panthers wrapped it up during the final minute of the third. Anthony Duclair scored an empty-net goal with 10 seconds left for his sixth goal of the year.
