You can call it a Saturday night special as the Plantation-American Heritage Patriots visit the Dillard Panthers at Otis Gray Jr. Memorial Stadium with first place on the line in District 15-5A. Both teams will have a clearer look at the playoff picture from the results of the Cardinal Gibbons game on Friday at Hallandale. The Chiefs have the head-to-head tiebreaker with a last-minute win over Dillard at The Furnace two weeks ago.
Dillard(4-4, 2-1) needs to win the game on Saturday just to get into the postseason. The Panthers will have all their focus on this matchup even with the Soul Bowl against the Blanche Ely Tigers at Lockhart Stadium next Saturday night. They had a bye last week and are stuck on a two-game losing streak will defeats to Glades Central 31-19 and Cardinal Gibbons 27-26. Running back Dre'sean Nelson can be elusive and run by the secondary should he get into the open field. Eddie Roberts IV is a fine compliment piece that can get the short gains. Quarterback Lee Martin will pass to wide receivers Dennis Turner and LaDarion McBride in any place they are on the field.
American Heritage(7-1, 3-0) showed off their offensive attack and made a statement last Saturday night with a 70-19 rout of Cardinal Gibbons at Heritage Field. Running back Sony Michel leads the Patriots and can score at any time on any specific play as he leaves the backfield. Tyler Cogswell, a University of Arkansas commit, will have wide receivers Isaiah McKenzie, Tyler Carmona and Alec Montes de Oca as primary targets. Two-way player Walter Tucker will have an impact as a safety on defense and as a running back on offense. Should there be a three-way tie for the district after Saturday, Cardinal Gibbons would host the tiebreaker on Monday night because they have the best overall record this season.
