It turned out to be a defensive battle in this Class 7A regional semifinal on Friday night as the Boyd Anderson Cobras slipped by the Dwyer Panthers 6-3 at Blum Stadium in Palm Beach Gardens. The Cobras advanced to the regional finals and will play their third straight road playoff game next week at St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale.
Dwyer(9-3) accounted for their only points of the game on a 32-yard field goal by Peyton Shapiro late in the first quarter. It was set up by a 33-yard pass by Daniel Parr to Ezra Saffold. Johnnie Dixon picked off an interception which led to the Panthers scoring possession.
There was no more scoring in the game until the fourth quarter when Boyd Anderson(9-2) took the lead. Gregory Hankerson connected with Richard Lopez down the left sideline on a 26-yard pass for a 6-3 lead with 5:40 left. The Panthers had one more chance to score in the last three minutes of the game, however Lopez intercepted a Parr pass at the Cobras eight-yard line with no time remaining.
