Dwyer Dominates Northeast

The Dwyer Panthers put up 22 second-half points as they blew away the Northeast Hurricanes 25-3 in a Class 7A regional quarterfinal at The Black Hole in Oakland Park on Friday night. The Panthers played a first-round game on the road for the first time since 2002. They will host Boyd Anderson in a regional semifinal next week. The Hurricanes had their eight-game winning streak snapped along with an unbeaten record at home.
Northeast(9-2) recovered the opening kickoff at the Panthers seven-yard line just four seconds in. Luis Rivera would kick a 25-yard field goal at 8:56 to give the Canes their only lead in the game 3-0.
Dwyer(9-2) linebacker Anthony Romano intercepted a Brion Sanchious pass with 2:57 left at his own 45-yard line and returned it 15 yards. Peyton Shapiro had his 45-yard field goal blocked by the Canes with 20 seconds to go in the first quarter.
A controversial call happened with under three minutes to go in the second quarter when Dwyer wide receiver Johnnie Dixon caught a 15-yard pass on the left side of the zone for a touchdown, but the side judge ruled him out of bounds on the play. On the Panthers final possession of the first half, Shapiro blasted a 30-yard field goal with no time remaining to tie the game at 3-3.
On the third play of the third quarter, Dwyer cornerback Deandre Bozeman intercepted a ball and returned it to the Hurricanes 30-yard line at 10:57. Quarterback Daniel Parr finished the ten-play drive with a one-yard touchdown run on a fourth-and-goal at 5:55.
Running back Jamal Wallace was stripped of the ball by Bozeman at the Hurricanes 25-yard line with 2:17 to go. Four plays later,  Ezra Saffold caught a 23-yard catch for a score with 28 seconds left in the quarter to extend the Panthers lead to 16-3.
The Panthers got a safety on a bad punt snap into the back of the Northeast end zone to make it 18-3 at 10:15 of the fourth quarter. Jerrad Ward recovered a fumble by Sanchious in the end zone with 2:40 remaining in the game for a 25-3 lead.
