The Jackson Generals will travel from Miami to Plantation and take on the American Heritage Patriots on Friday night at Heritage Field in a Class 5A regional quarterfinal. The winner of this game will face the Norland-Dillard winner in the next round.
Jackson(5-4) have played quality opponents throughout their season. The Generals won four of their first five games in the regular season which included victories over Dr. Krop, American and Miami Beach. They are currently on a three-game losing streak with defeats to playoff-bound teams Booker T. Washington, Norland and Northwestern. Jackson lost the Soul Bowl to the Bulls last week 21-13. Quarterback Quinton Flowers can run or pass the ball at anytime on offense for the Generals.
American Heritage(9-1) has been unstoppable this season as they carry an eight-game winning streak into this game. They beat the other four teams in their own District 15-5A by a combined 221-28 margin. The only loss in the Pats schedule was at defending Class 4A state champion Jacksonville-Bolles in the second week 30-27.
The Patriots will be led by quarterback Tyler Cogswell, who is a University of Arkansas commit. He is able to throw a pass anywhere on the field and will connect with Isaiah McKenzie as his primary target. Running back Sony Michel can break open on any carry or screen pass when needed.
