The Miami Heat welcomed the new-look Brooklyn Nets for the first time this season on Wednesday night and achieved a 103-73 victory at American Airlines Arena. The Nets moved their franchise to Brooklyn during the summer from New Jersey after 35 seasons in the Garden State.
Neither team got up by more than four points as Miami led after one quarter 26-22. The Heat rolled with a 12-4 spurt during the second quarter and extended their lead to 42-31 with five minutes left in the first half. Dwyane Wade and LeBron James had 21 of the first 42 points for Miami at the time. The Nets were down 50-41 at halftime.
Miami(4-1) upped their margin to 20 points on a 22-11 run to start the second half and made it 72-52 with 3:45 left in the third quarter. Brooklyn(1-2) looked up at a 23-point deficit 79-56 after three quarters. The Heat continued to hold the lead with an 11-2 run midway through the fourth quarter.
James sat down in the final quarter as he had 20 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists in 30 minutes. Wade scored 22 points in 32 minutes while Rashard Lewis added 13 points for the Heat. Deron Williams led the Nets with 14 points and Kris Humphries poured in 11 points.
