Udonis Haslem passed Alonzo Mourning as the all-time leader for rebounds with the Miami Heat as they won 113-106 in overtime over the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday night at American Airlines Arena. Haslem, in his tenth season with the Heat, became the first undrafted player to lead an NBA franchise in career rebounds. He joined the team at the start of the 2003-04 season along with Dwyane Wade and won two NBA titles with the organization.
Miami(9-3) returned home after two weeks following a six-game road trip where they went 4-2. The Heat ended the first quarter on a 17-2 spurt to go ahead 29-15. Haslem picked up his second rebound in the game and his 4,808th rebound in his career at 2:36 to get the new franchise record.
The Heat continued on a 25-6 run during the first half to lead by 18 points 37-19 three minutes into the second quarter. Milwaukee(8-4) center Larry Sanders, a Port St. Lucie High School grad, was ejected from the game during the second quarter after playing for six minutes. His team was able to outscore the Heat 16-2 to end the first half down only two points.
Neither team had more than a six-point lead in the third as the Bucks led 73-71 after three quarters. Milwaukee was unable to hold a seven-point lead at 91-84 with 4:50 left in regulation as the game went into overtime.
In their first overtime game this season, the Heat got the first six points in the extra session on the way to an 11-2 run. Miami improved their unbeaten record at home to 5-0 this season.
LeBron James had his ninth double-double of the season with 28 points and ten rebounds along with eight assists in 42 minutes of play. Dwyane Wade returned back to the court for the Heat after missing the last two games as he contributed 28 points in 32 minutes. Chris Bosh powered inside with 24 points and 18 rebounds in a team-high 43 minutes.
