Two teams that finished the regular season as district runner-ups won last week on the road in the first round and will face each other in a Class 7A regional semifinal on Friday night. The Boyd Anderson Cobras will play the Dwyer Panthers at Blum Stadium in Palm Beach Gardens.
Dwyer(9-2) started off slow in a first-round game last week against Northeast in Oakland Park, but they came through with 22 second-half points for a 25-3 victory. The Panthers have won three of their last four games. After one month of not having a permanent quarterback in place, Daniel Parr has taken over the spot. Alonso Smith, Cortney Lowery and Antonio Knowles will take carries from the backfield. Johnnie Dixon, Ezra Saffold and Clint Stephens will look to get open downfield for receptions.
During the first round, Boyd Anderson(8-2) upended Atlantic in Delray Beach 13-7 last week on a fourth-quarter touchdown to break a tie game. The Cobras enter the game victorious in six of their last seven games. Gregory Hankerson will lead their offense as he can run or throw the ball anywhere on the field. They have a strong wide receiver crew led by Eddie Jackson along with Richard Lopez, Braylin Sigler, Darren Williams and Raynard Warren. Tevin Hyatt will get an occasional carry for the team.
