Panthers Rocket By Oilers

The Florida Panthers downed the Edmonton Oilers 6-0 at Rogers Place on Thursday night. It was the second contest of a five-game road swing for the Panthers.
This is the latest in the regular season that the Panthers are leading the National Hockey League standings in franchise history. It was the 35th career shutout for Sergei Bobrovsky and his first since November 2 against the Detroit Red Wings. Bobrovsky completed the shutout as he made 40 saves and is now 8-0-1 in his last nine contests.
Florida(27-8-5) broke out to a 1-0 lead at the 5:28 mark of the second period. Jonathan Huberdeau passed forward from above the left circle to Sam Reinhart on the left goal line. He connected a cross-ice pass and Aleksander Barkov one-timed a shot from the low right circle past Mikko Koskinen for his 16th goal of the season.
The Panthers made it 2-0 at 8:07. MacKenzie Weegar backhanded the puck from the left corner to Reinhart behind the Oilers net. He centered it and Carter Verhaeghe snapped a shot from the left-circle dot for his 14th goal this season. It was the sixth goal for Verhaeghe in the last six games.
Edmonton(18-16-2) surrendered another goal and trailed 3-0 at the 7:13 mark of the third period. Radko Gudas sent a lead pass from his own blue line to Barkov in the neutral zone. He skated to the high slot area and scored on a wrist shot for his second tally of the contest and 17th goal of the campaign.
It became 4-0 for the Cats with 4:20 left in the third as they converted on the power play. Barkov made a diagonal pass from the right circle and Anthony Duclair scored on a backhand tap from the left of the crease for his 17th goal. Barkov picked up his third point of the game on that play.
The Panthers increased it to a five-goal margin with 3:06 to go in the frame. Owen Tippett steered the puck from the left corner. Sam Bennett carried it through the left circle to the low slot and lifted a backhand shot for his 17th goal this season.
The Cats expanded it to a six-goal gap with 1:44 remaining on a give-and-go play. Maxim Mamin fed the puck from the low right circle and Tippett snapped a shot from the slot area.
