Stars Slip By Panthers

     The Dallas Stars edged the Florida Panthers 6-5 in a shootout at American Airlines Center on Thursday night. The Panthers are winless in nine of their last 10 road contests and have a 4-4-5 road record this season. 
     The Stars had not played a game since December 20. Panthers center Joe Thornton participated in his 1,700 NHL contest. 
     Florida(22-7-5) got a power-play goal from Aleksander Barkov at 8:28 of the first period. It was Barkov's 13th goal of the season.
     Dallas(16-12-2) tied it 1-1 with 7:07 left in the first. Michael Raffl was able to compile his fourth tally of the campaign. 
     In the second period, the Cats reclaimed the lead 2-1 just 18 seconds in. Barkov nailed a shorthanded goal for his second tally of the contest. 
     The Stars scored at the 1:46 mark. Denis Gurianov helped them out with a power-play goal to even it up 2-2. The Cats pulled ahead 3-2 when Patric Hornqvist got his third goal in the last two games and seventh of the year. Dallas matched them again as Jason Robertson scored for them with 6:50 remaining in the second. 
     It became 4-3 and Dallas had their first lead of the game. Tyler Seguin was able to put the puck in the cage for his ninth goal this season. The Panthers closed it to 4-4 with 2:43 to go in the period as MacKenzie Weegar chalked up his second goal of the year. 
     Dallas regained the lead 5-4 at 6:26 of the third period. Jamie Benn marked his ninth goal this season. Florida matched it for a 5-5 tie with 29 seconds left in regulation as Jonathan Huberdeau picked up his 12th goal of the campaign. 
     The Stars swept through the shootout as they converted on their two attempts. Joe Pavelski and Robertson both found the net.
