The Florida Panthers were manhandled by the St. Louis Blues 7-0 at Scottrade Arena on Saturday night. Florida(1-1-0) pulled goalie Tim Thomas after he allowed five goals in the first two periods and was replaced by Jacob Markstrom for the final period.
Blues newcomer Brenden Morrow scored the first goal for St. Louis(2-0-0) on the power play at 13:58 of the first period. An avalanche of four goals would come during the second period as they got tallies in a time span of 6:32 from Vladimir Tarasenko, Jaden Schwartz, Derek Roy and Alexander Steen. The Panthers were held to just 12 shots after two periods.
The Blues added two more goals in the third period by Ryan Reaves at 2:44 and Patrik Berglund at 4:09. The Panthers were outshot 34-19 in the game and held scoreless on the power play as they went 0-for-7. St. Louis was 1-for-4 on the power play and had the faceoff edge at 33-24.
St. Louis goalie Jaroslav Halak set a club record with his 17th shutout with the team as he passed Glen Hall for that honor. The Blues now have an all-time record of 10-3-1 at home when they host the Panthers.
