Sabres Cut Panthers

    The Buffalo Sabres came out with a 3-1 victory over the Florida Panthers at BB&T Center on Friday night. The Cats have lost two straight games and are now 1-2-1 on the current six-game homestand. They have won two of their last ten games.
    Florida(3-7-1) ended up with a season-high 18 shots in the first period and 45 shots overall in the game. The Panthers took a 1-0 lead at 13:58 of the first as Jesse Winchester tipped in a shot for his second goal of the season. Sean Bergenheim, who made his first appearance for the team since the 2012 Eastern Conference quarterfinals against the New Jersey Devils, and Erik Gudbranson got the assists on the play.
    The final two periods of the game belonged to Buffalo(2-9-1). Rasmus Ristolanien scored his first NHL goal at 13:32 of the second period on a snap shot to even it up 1-1. Steve Ott gave the Sabres their first lead in the third period with his first goal of the season at 12:42. Cody Hodgson wrapped up the victory with an empty-net goal with 47 seconds remaining in regulation.
