The Dwyer Panthers scored 26 unanswered points in the first 32 minutes of the game as they cruised by the Royal Palm Beach Panthers 40-14 in a District 13-7A game on Thursday night at Palms West Hospital Stadium. Dwyer stayed undefeated at 6-0 along with a 3-0 record in the district while Royal Palm Beach fell to 1-2 in the district and 3-2 overall.
The Panthers scored in their first possession of the game as running back Alonso Smith rumbled in with a four-yard touchdown run at 2:33 of the first quarter for a 7-0 lead.
Dwyer quarterback Daniel Parr would score on a one-yard dash to make it 14-0 with 2:47 left in the second quarter. They extended their lead to 20-0 in the final minute of the first half as wide receiver Ezra Saffold caught a 15-yard pass from Parr for a score.
The onslaught continued against the Wildcats as wide receiver Shawun Lurry dashed around the right end for a 29-yard touchdown at 8:19 of the third quarter as the Panthers held a 26-point margin.
Royal Palm Beach broke the shutout late in the third as running back Demarcus Holloway scooted in from three yards away with 3:07 to make it 26-7.
Dwyer responded quickly as Saffold got into the end zone on a six-yard reception in the final minute of the third quarter as the gap was extended to 33-7. It was his second touchdown catch in the game and his fifth touchdown of the season which tied the team-high with Johnnie Dixon and Clint Stephens.
Wildcats quarterback Jimmy Moreland added a one-yard touchdown run at 10:24 of the final quarter and closed the margin to 33-14.
Parr threw his third touchdown pass of the game later in the fourth quarter which was caught by wide receiver Eddie Giles from 18 yards out for a 40-14 lead.
