Panthers Tame Wild With Comeback Win

The Florida Panthers played a game beyond regulation for the first time this season and snapped their three-game losing streak with a 2-1 shootout victory over the Minnesota Wild on Saturday night at BB&T Center. The Panthers came into the contest 0-6-0 when they allowed the first goal of the game and 0-5-0 when they were behind after two periods.
Minnesota(3-4-2) scored on the power play at 4:05 of the second period as Jonas Brodin took a slap shot from above the high slot that was deflected by Jesse Winchester in the slot area and between the legs of his teammate Tim Thomas.
Florida(3-6-0) evened the game at 1-1 during their fifth power play of the game with 13:11 left in the third period. Dmitry Kulikov played the puck from the left-wing boards to Brian Campbell at the top of the Wild zone. He passed it to Tomas Fleischmann at the top right circle where he fired a slap shot that was redirected by Aleksander Barkov in the slot by goalie Josh Harding. The Panthers scored on the power play for the first time in four games and Barkov put in his third tally of the season.
Neither team scored during overtime and the game went to a shootout. Zach Parise tried the first attempt for the Wild and failed to stuff in a forehand shot. Jonathan Huberdeau did some puck moving as he approached the crease with a forehand and backhand fake before putting in the forehand by Harding. Mikko Koivu missed in the second round for Minnesota as he let go a backhand shot that Thomas caught in his glove. Brad Boyes capped off the Panthers comeback win as he scored on his backhand shot.
Thomas improved to 2-3-0 with his first home victory as a Florida Panther as he stopped 30 of 31 shots. Harding fell to 3-3-0 this season as he made 21 saves for his team. Both teams finished 1-for-5 on the power play.
