West Boca Raton Outlasts Lake Worth

The West Boca Raton Bulls took the second-to-last step to capture the District 13-7A championship with a 37-12 home win against the Lake Worth Trojans on Friday night. The Bulls, who have won six consecutive district games, will get their shot for the district title next week as they travel to take on the Dwyer Panthers.
The first quarter was dominated by West Boca Raton(7-2, 6-0) as they opened up a 23-0 lead. On their first possession, Michael Jaffe kicked a 37-yard field goal at 7:48. Their next drive went five plays for 55 yards as quarterback Paul Columbo fired an eight-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver John Parisi on the right sideline with 3:24 left to make it 10-0.
The Bulls recovered an on-side kick to begin their following possession at the Trojans 34-yard line. Two plays later, Columbo found wide receiver Alexander Astorga in the right side of the end zone on a 15-yard touchdown strike with 2:31 to go. The extra point was no good and the Bulls were up 16-0.
One minute later, Trojans wide receiver Jeremy Kennedy fumbled the ball following a catch at his 35-yard line. The ball was returned 32 yards for a touchdown by Antonio Cartagena with 1:27 left in the first.
Lake Worth(3-6, 2-4) tried to chip away at the lead in the final eight minutes of the second quarter. They finished a 79-yard drive with a 47-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Craig Wells to wide receiver James Jones at 6:11 and narrowed the gap to 23-6.
The Trojans scored again on their next possession which started at their own two-yard line following an interception by safety Raekwon Bureau. Jones caught a 42-yard catch up the middle during the drive and brought it to the Bulls 25. Several plays later, Wells connected with Jones on a 14-yard fly pattern for a touchdown to cut the lead down to 23-12 with 1:02 remaining in the first half.
The Bulls would pull ahead in the second half with two more touchdowns. Columbo dashed up the middle with a three-yard run with 54 seconds left in the third. Running back Jerrod Ferguson capped the victory for his team on a 15-yard run around the left tackle at 5:06 of the fourth quarter and extended their lead to 37-12.
