The Cypress Bay Lightning travel to Brian Piccolo Stadium and face the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders on Friday night in Fort Lauderdale. Both schools are trying to keep up to their standards from last year. Cypress Bay lost to Apopka in the FHSAA Class 8A championship game while St. Thomas Aquinas won the Class 7A title over Tallahassee-Lincoln.
Cypress Bay have been rolling in the last three weeks with wins over Everglades 25-13, Cooper City 24-13 and Western 32-7. Their top running back Dylan Rupert left their previous game last week against Western with a leg injury after he got three touchdown runs for them. He may not play against STA this week.
St. Thomas Aquinas have blitzed through their last three opponents following a home loss to the Miramar Patriots. The Raiders beat Nova 58-6, South Broward 66-0 and Northeast 60-6 in the past three weeks. They have outscored their opponents 184-12 in their last three games.
Raiders running back Mardre London will get most of the carries for the team along with Deltron Sands. Quarterback Wade Freebeck looks to pace the team on offense and will throw the ball to his primary target wide receiver Devante Peete.
