Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez has been named the 2013 National League Rookie of the Year. He becomes the fourth player in franchise history to win the honor. Florida Marlins players who have received the award includes Dontrelle Willis in 2003, Hanley Ramirez in 2006 and Chris Coghlan in 2009.
Fernandez finished the 2013 season with a 12-6 record, 187 strikeouts and a 2.19 earned runs average. He made 28 starts and pitched 172 2/3 innings for the team this season before Marlins baseball operations decided to shut him down in mid-September.
