104.3 The Ticket WAXY-FM was the top sports talk station for the second straight month in the Miami/Fort Lauderdale region. Sports Radio 560 WQAM-AM was slightly behind in second while 940 The Sports Animal WINZ-AM closed the gap and finished third.
Lincoln Financial Media had put more emphasis on 104.3 The Ticket along with its FM frequency and it has paid off in the last two ratings periods. The station went from a 1.0 to a 1.1 in the month of October. The bump was due to the start of national syndication for the Dan LeBatard Show with Stugotz on ESPN Radio. A platform for a national show will certainly create a social buzz.
WQAM slightly dropped from a 0.9 to a 0.8 in October. It was very unusual for the fall with the success of the University of Miami football team at the start of the season. They were unable to hold on to ratings from the previous period as the audience continued to adjust with new personnel on the afternoon show and early afternoon show.
The major surprise during the ratings period was the large increase of 940 The Sports Animal. They went from a 0.3 to a 0.5 during October and more than doubled their audience from the summer months. Give credit to the great start that the Miami Dolphins had at the beginning of the NFL season. The simulcast of The Finsiders with Jesse Agler on Fox Sports Florida has also been noticed by the audience.
