West Boca Raton at Dwyer Preview

The District 13-7A title is on the line Friday night as the Dwyer Panthers host the West Boca Raton Bulls at Blum Stadium in Palm Beach Gardens. Both teams come into this game undefeated at 6-0 in the district. The winner of District 13-7A will host the first three rounds of the FHSAA playoffs through the regional finals in Section 4.
Dwyer(9-0, 6-0) will have several pieces of extra incentive to drive them against the Bulls. The Panthers look to complete an undefeated regular season and reclaim the district championship after they finished as the district runner-up behind the Atlantic Eagles last year. Prior to 2012, Dwyer opened the FHSAA playoffs on the road for the first time since 2002. Last season the Panthers beat Northeast 25-3 in Oakland Park in the regional quarterfinal before they fell at home to Boyd Anderson 6-3 in the regional semifinal.
The Panthers have outscored their opponents 393-43 this season. They got revenge last week with a 42-6 blowout of defending district champion Atlantic. Quarterback Daniel Parr leads Palm Beach County in pass completions and passing yards this season. He will throw the ball to one of the most talented wide receiver factions in the state of Florida that includes Johnnie Dixon, Ezra Saffold and Clint Stephens. The rushing attack is impressive with Alonso Smith, who is second in Palm Beach County rushing yards, in the backfield along with Gerald Hearns. Special teams return specialist Shawun Lurry is a threat and has scored several touchdowns this season.
After losing two of their first three games against non-district opponents, West Boca Raton(7-2, 6-0) won six consecutive games against teams inside their district. They got by the Lake Worth Trojans 37-12 last week at home. The Bulls will enter the FHSAA playoffs for the first time since 2010 when they lost in the regional quarterfinal to Blanche Ely 32-30 at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale.
Bulls quarterback Paul Columbo will dictate what they run on offense. He will occasionally run the ball and pass the ball to a bunch of targets that include wide receivers Antonio Cartagena, Aaron Robinson, John Parisi, and Alexander Astorga. Running back Jerrod Ferguson will get a load of carries from the backfield for West Boca Raton.
