The Florida Panthers made a one-game road stop in Nashville and lost to the Predators 4-3 on Tuesday night at Bridgestone Arena. The Cats have not won in Nashville since 1999 and are now 1-4-0 away from Sunrise this season. They return home to face the Boston Bruins on Thursday.
Nashville(3-3-0), who never trailed during the game and have a 7-0-1 record against the Cats in their last eight meetings in Tennessee, picked up the only goal of the first period as Shea Weber put in the puck at 9:23.
Florida(2-5-0) evened the game early in the second period at 1:16 as Calder Trophy winner Jonathan Huberdeau scored his third goal of the season. The Predators regained the lead when Mike Fisher got a tally at 12:48. Less than one minute later, Marcel Goc tied the game at 2-2 just 42 seconds later as he placed his third goal this year.
The Predators slowly pulled away from the Cats during the third period as they compiled a Craig Smith goal at 1:22 and a power-play goal at 5:13 by Patric Hornqvist. Florida newcomer Matt Gilroy recorded his first goal as a Panther when his cross-ice pass to Alekander Barkov in the crease was redirected into the Preds cage by David Legwand with 8:23 left in the game.
Markstrom dropped to 1-3-0 this season as he stopped 26 shots while Pekka Rinne made 22 saves and moved to 3-3-0. For the second consecutive game involving the Panthers, there was a limited amount of power plays as Florida went 0-for-1 and Nashville ended up 1-for-2.
