The Park Vista Cobras will host the Jupiter Warriors in a non-district game on Friday night at GL Homes Stadium in Boynton Beach. Both teams are in contention in their separate Class 8A districts in Palm Beach County for the FHSAA playoffs.
Park Vista(4-1), who are tied with the Boca Raton Bobcats for first place in District 10-8A, has won four consecutive games which included a victory last week at home against the John I. Leonard Lancers 34-0. Defensive back Marques Gayot had two interceptions in that game and backup quarterback Brandon Sharpe took most of the snaps on offense for an ailing Qwad Martin who had the flu.
The Cobras will be at full strength as Martin is expected to run and throw the ball to his receivers. A slew of running backs will lead the way which includes Emmanuel Smith, Jametrius Bentley, Barkman and Chauncey Mason. Look for any one of them from the backfield to receive short screen passes for long gains and wide receiver Renard Cheren as their deep threat. Their special teams unit have scored four touchdowns this season and included a return on a blocked punt by Mason versus John I. Leonard in the last game.
Jupiter(3-3) is currently tied for first place in District 9-8A with the Palm Beach Gardens Gators. They won their first district game last week with a road win over the Wellington Wolverines 17-14. Running back Jerome Davis led the offense with 123 yards on 19 carries and two touchdowns in that contest. He is expected to get the bulk of the handoffs on offense for the Warriors.
