The St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders will visit the Plantation Colonels at PAL Field for the District 15-7A championship on Friday night. Both teams are undefeated in the district as they head into this game.
They met two times last year at Brian Piccolo Stadium with the Raiders victorious in both games. The Colonels lost in the regular season 24-20 and in the regional semifinal 38-7. The Raiders would go on a capture the FHSAA Class 7A championship in Orlando.
Plantation(7-1, 3-0) is riding a five-game winning streak. They began the season with a road win at Dillard 33-6 and lost two weeks later on the road against Miramar 28-14. The Colonels have outscored their district opponents 143-26.
Quarterback Chris Lammons will lead the Colonels offense as he can run and pass the ball anytime. They have a balanced rushing attack with running backs Antwuan Hayes and Clint Sills Jr. in the backfield. Lammons has numerous players to throw the ball to which includes wide receivers Jewison Dawkins, Kendan Davis and Ravion Peevis.
St. Thomas Aquinas(7-1, 3-0) also enters this game with a five-game winning streak. They began the regular season with a 38-3 victory over Northwestern at Sun Life Stadium and defeated the defending national champions John Curtis 27-13 at the Superdome in New Orleans. They would then loss their home opener to Miramar 22-20. The Raiders have outscored their district opponents 171-13 and got a 266-19 scoring advantage in their last five regular season games.
Aquinas will generate their offensive attack on the speed of running back Mardre London through the line of scrimmage. The Raiders have a good passing game as quarterback Wade Freebeck will look to connect with wide receivers Devante Peete, Corey Holmes and Jawuan Harris down the field.
