76ers Surprise Heat

No one expected a strong performance by the Philadelphia 76ers in their home opener as the Miami Heat lost 104-100 at Wells Fargo Center on Wednesday night. The 76ers held a retirement ceremony for former point guard Allen Iverson several hours prior to the game. Dwyane Wade did not dress for the Heat due to his soar knees.
Philadelphia(1-0) blasted out at the beginning of the game as they scored the first 19 points until the Heat put in their first basket at 7:07. The Sixers extended their lead to 21 points and were up 33-14 after one quarter.
Miami(1-1) cut the margin dramatically during the second quarter as they outscored the 76ers 35-18 and were behind 51-49 at halftime.
The Heat took their first lead in the game 60-59 at 8:33 of the third quarter. They would stay ahead through the rest of the period and led 94-85 after three quarters. It would be their largest lead of the game.
In the fourth quarter, Miami was up 107-99 with 4:54 to go. They would score just more three points for the remainder of the game. Philadelphia went on a 13-1 run for the next four minutes and put the game away.
LeBron James led the Heat with a team-high 25 points and 13 assists in 37 minutes while Chris Bosh added a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds in 34 minutes. Ray Allen knocked down 19 points as a non-starter and Mario Chalmers dropped in 16 points.
Three Philadelphia players scored at least 20 points in the victory. Evan Turner had 26, Spencer Hawes had 24 along with nine rebounds and Michael Carter-Williams compiled a double-double in his NBA debut with 22 points, 12 assists and nine steals.
