Carl Pelini resigned as the head coach of the Florida Atlantic University football program on Wednesday due to the use of illegal drugs. FAU athletic director Pat Chun also announced that defensive coordinator Pete Rekstis was no longer with the football team.
Offensive coordinator Brian Wright has been promoted to the interim head coach position for the rest of the regular season. He becomes the third head coach, even though he was handed the interim tag, of the football program in FAU history behind Howard Schnellenberger and Pelini.
Pelini joined FAU after the 2011 season and had an overall record of 5-15 in two seasons with the school. The Owls have a record of 2-6 and 1-4 in Conference USA in 2013.
