Heat Win Home Opener Over Bulls

    The Miami Heat raised their third championship banner, received their championship rings prior to the game and then pounded the Chicago Bulls 107-95 at American Airlines Arena on Tuesday night. The Heat are now 2-1 in their home opener after capturing an NBA title.
    Chicago(0-1) started out the game on a 9-2 spurt in the first five minutes. The Heat would respond with ten straight points at the end of the first quarter and led 20-15.
    Miami(1-0) continued to roll at the beginning of the second quarter on a 25-9 run and were up 45-24 with three minutes remaining in the first half. It was a 35-9 scoring span for the Heat over the two periods. Miami would still hold a margin of over 20 points by halftime at 54-33.
    The Bulls were able to cut the lead late in the third quarter and came within 16 points at 72-56 with 2:31 left. They were way behind 78-58 at the end of the quarter.
    The Heat moved the gap back up by 25 points early in the final quarter. Chicago made one last run midway through the period with a 14-4 run and were down 87-72 with 7:16 left. The Bulls pulled within eight points at 2:18 and trailed 95-87.
    LeBron James had a team-high 17 points and eight rebounds for the Heat in 38 minutes of play. Chris Bosh contributed 16 points and six rebounds while Mario Chalmers dropped in 13 points along with a team-high five steals in the victory. Dwyane Wade added 13 points and Shane Battier drained in 14.
     Carlos Boozer nailed 31 points and seven rebounds in 32 minutes for Chicago. Jimmy Butler put in 20 points and Derrick Rose made his return to the NBA and knocked in 12 points.
