High schools from South Florida captured four different FHSAA football titles in 2017. South Florida teams did not dominate in the FHSAA playoffs as they have in other years.
Two Broward County schools captured state championships. American Heritage won the Class 5A title as the Patriots blasted Baker County 44-15. It was their second straight championship and the fourth crown in the last five years.
Chaminade-Madonna won their first state championship since 2005. The Lions edged recent playoff rival and Palm Beach County school Oxbridge Academy 31-28 for the Class 3A state title.
Two Dade County schools were victorious at Camping World Stadium in Orlando and took state titles. Miami Northwestern held off Armwood 21-16 for the Class 6A state title. It was the Bulls first state championship since they captured back-to-back state championships in 2006 and 2007.
Champagnat Catholic reached the Class 2A state championship game. They defeated University Christian 24-7 in the title game.
Atlantic made their first championship appearance since 1978. The Eagles fell short and lost to the Dr. Phillips Panthers 17-7 in the Class 8A state championship game.
