The San Jose Sharks got by the Florida Panthers 2-1 on Friday night at BB&T Center on Friday night. The Panthers tried to win their third straight game for the first time this season. The Sharks extended their winning streak to three games with the victory.
Florida(10-13-2) would get out to a 1-0 lead at 1:49 left in the first period. Colton Sceviour scored on a backhand shot in the crease for his fifth goal of the year on assists from Alex Petrovic and former Sharks player Micheal Haley.
A milestone was accomplished in the second period for San Jose(14-8-2). Joe Pavelski collected his 300th career goal at 11:20 with a shot from the blue paint. He became the 199th NHL player and 18th born in the United States to reach that plateau. Joe Thornton dug the puck from the end wall and centered it for the primary assist.
The Sharks got the go-ahead goal at the 7:13 mark of the third period. Chris Tierney put in a tally as he banked a backhand shot from the right goal line off the back of Roberto Luongo for his seventh goal of the season. Meiker Karlsson and Brett Burns put picked up assists.
