The Florida Panthers improved their season-best longest winning streak to five games as they disposed of the Montreal Canadiens 2-0 on Saturday night at BB&T Center. The Canadiens extended their losing streak to four games. It was the second straight Saturday that a Panthers home game was broadcast nationally on Hockey Night In Canada.
After no scoring in the first period, Florida(17-16-5) put in the first goal at 4:02 of the second. Mark Pysyk fired a slap shot from the left point which was stopped by traffic in front. Connor Brickley recovered the puck in the left circle, spun and scored a snap shot by Carey Price for his fourth goal of the campaign.
Montreal(16-19-4) surrendered another goal with 8:11 left in the third period. Brickley carried the puck across the Habs line and sent a lead pass to MacKenzie Weegar on the left wing. He connected a backhand pass across the low slot and Vincent Trocheck scored into an open net on a forehand shot for his 15th goal of the season.
