Miami Northwestern And Armwood Title Preview

The Miami Northwestern Bulls challenge the Armwood Hawks in the FHSAA Class 6A state championship game at Camping World Stadium in Orlando on Friday night. It has been a while since either school has captured a state title.
Miami Northwestern(11-2), who will be playing their first playoff game on the road this year, last played in a state championship contest in 2008. They did win the top classification Class 6A state title in 2006 and 2007. They have won 21 of their last 25 games over the last two seasons. The Bulls blew out Matanzas 33-0 in a regional quarterfinal before they defeated division rivals Miami Central 24-18 in a regional semifinal and Carol City 23-15 in a regional final. Last week they dominated Naples 42-7 in a state semifinal. They have outscored their opponents 358-117 this season and allowed nine points per game.
Quarterback Chatarius Atwell Jr. will lead the Bulls offense. His primary targets down the field are wide receivers Derrick Davis and Justin Hill. Their rushing game is focused on running back Corey Hammett who is expected to get the majority of carries along with Davonne Kendrick and Kiaryn Davis.
Armwood(14-0) is undefeated and have won 14 consecutive games. They also will be playing their first playoff contest this season on the road. Some of their players do have some experience in a state title game held in Orlando as the Hawks played in the Class 6A final and lost to Miami Central in 2014 and 2015. The Hawks pulled out victories over Sebring 42-0 in a regional quarterfinal, Hillsborough 22-0 in a regional semifinal, Vanguard 31-17 in a regional final and St. Augustine 30-6 in a state semifinal. They have outscored their opponents 503-77 as they averaged 35 points for and five points against per game this year.
Devin Black will call the signals as the quarterback for the Hawks. They have several options in their rushing attack with running backs Brian Snead, Larry Anderson, Jerome Ford and Silas Powell. Black intends to find wide receivers Warren Thompson, Ezeriah Anderson, Wayne Denis and Jerome Ford for pass receptions.
