Former South Florida television sportscaster John Henry Smith III has joined WVIT-TV in Hartford as a sports director and sports anchor. He recently worked as a freelance broadcaster at News 12 in New York.
Smith, a Syracuse University grad, started as a sports reporter and sports anchor at News 14 in Raleigh from 2002 to 2004 before he moved to Miami. He arrived at WPLG-TV as a sports anchor in May 2004 and stayed there until July 2009.
He then joined at WVUE-TV in New Orleans as a sports anchor from October 2009 to July 2011. Smith followed that with a stint as a sports anchor and sports reporter at Comcast Sportsnet Bay Area in San Francisco from July 2011 until September 2013. He worked the 2011-12 season as the sideline reporter for Golden State Warriors telecasts. Smith moved on to Al Jazeera America in Washington D.C. and was employed there as a sportscaster until early 2016.
