Panthers Survive Wild

The Florida Panthers came back to top the Minnesota Wild 4-2 at BB&T Center on Friday night. The Panthers returned home following a five-game road trip that lasted almost two weeks.
Minnesota(18-14-3) scored on their first power play at 8:09 of the opening period. Ryan Suter blasted a one-time slap shot from the top of the zone off a Matt Dumba pass from the top left circle that went by James Reimer for a 1-0 lead.
Florida(14-16-5) was able to even it up with 3:07 left in the first. The puck ringed around the end wall following an Alex Petrovic shot to Vincent Trocheck on the right-wing boards and he flicked a wrist shot on net that beat Alex Stalock for his 14th goal of the season.
In the second period, the Wild regained the lead midway through the frame. Daniel Winnik carried the puck down to the crease area and softly shot the puck on goal. A defensive player bumped into Reimer in the blue paint and forced it into the Panthers cage at the 10:34 mark.
The Panthers tied it two minutes into the third period. Jonathan Huberdeau went into the left circle, faked a wrist shot and then scored on a backhand shot from the low slot for his 10th goal of the season to make it 2-2.
It was with 8:46 left in the third that Florida moved out to their first lead of the contest. Keith Yandle fired a slap shot from the left point which was stopped by traffic. Connor Brickley put in the loose puck from the low left circle for the go-ahead goal. Huberdeau got his second goal of the game as he scored into an empty net with 5.6 seconds left.
