The Florida Panthers ended a five-game road trip with a 3-2 victory over the Arizona Coyotes on Tuesday night at Gila River Arena. The Panthers return home to start a four-game home stand on Friday against the Minnesota Wild.
Arizona(7-24-5) waited until after a long 4-on-3 power play to go up 1-0 with 4:09 left in the first period. Clayton Keller ripped a wrist shot from the top right circle which was redirected in by Christian Keller in the crease past James Reimer.
In the second period, the Coyotes raced out to a 2-0 margin with 1:46 to go. Alex Goligoski sent a shot from the blue line and it was tipped by Brendan Perlini at the top of the crease. The puck went to the left of the crease and Derek Stepan backhanded it in for a tally.
Florida(13-16-5) broke the shutout with 9.7 seconds remaining in the second. Derek MacKenzie won the face-off in the left circle and drew the puck behind him. Nick Bjugstad followed with a snap shot from the top left circle by Antti Raanta for his ninth goal of the season.
The Panthers would tie the contest early in the third period at the 3:37 mark. Denis Malgin lifted a wrist shot from the low slot after a feed by Evgenii Dadonov.
Moments later the Cats took the lead at 5:41 on a 4-on-4 situation. Mike Matheson intercepted the puck in the neutral zone and brought it into the Arizona zone. He split the defense in the high slot, charged toward the net and scored on a forward shot.
