Marlins pitcher Sandy Alcantara pitched a three-hit complete game shutout as the Miami Marlins mauled the Chicago White Sox 10-0 on Wednesday at loanDepot park. The Marlins completed their opening homestand of the 2026 regular season with a 5-1 record.
Alcantara chalked up his 13rd complete game and fifth shutout in his Major League Baseball career. It was his first complete game pitched since August 12, 2023 versus the New York Yankees. He is third all-time in Marlins team history with 13 complete games behind Dontrelle Willis and A.J. Burnett.
The Marlins will visit Yankee Stadium to face the New York Yankees in their home opener on Friday. The White Sox will have their home opener tomorrow against the American League champions the Toronto Blue Jays.
The Fish have won five of their first six games to start a regular season for the sixth time in franchise history. The previous time they did it was in 2020.
Miami(5-1) leaped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Liam Hicks singled into shallow center field and Jakob Marsee scored. Connor Norby came up next and knocked in Otto Lopez with a double to right field. Owen Caissie followed with a single through the left side to score Liam Hicks and Connor Norby.
It became 6-0 for the Marlins in the second inning when Hicks blasted a two-run homer to right field on a 3-1 pitch for his third home run of the season. Xavier Edwards scored in front of him on the play.
The Fish extended their lead to 8-0 in the bottom of the third. Javier Sanoja drove in Heriberto Hernandez and Graham Pauley on a base hit up the middle.
Chicago(1-5) gave up another run in the sixth inning and trailed 9-0. Lopez scored on a single by Hicks into right field. The White Sox were down 10-0 in the bottom of the eighth when Lopez smashed a solo home run to left field on a 0-2 count.
