The Olympic Heights Lions were able to hold on with a 35-26 victory over the Forest Hill Falcons at Corey Lewis Stadium in Boca Raton on Thursday night. Both teams have already been eliminated from playoff contention and will finish together in last place for District 13-7A.
Olympic Heights(2-7, 1-6) won their first district game this season and also snapped a seven-game losing streak. They scored on their second possession of the game as running back Richard Thompson busted up the middle for a six-yard touchdown run at 5:30 of the first quarter and a 7-0 lead.
On the first play of the second quarter, the Lions extended their lead to 14-0 when wing back Matt Serren went around the left end and scored from 55 yards away at 11:47. Thompson later caught a 38-yard touchdown pass on a crossing pattern from quarterback Philip Barofsky with 6:34 left in the second.
Forest Hill(2-7, 1-6), who have now lost four straight games and seven of their last eight, broke the shutout before the end of the first half which started on a timely turnover. Lions running back Anthony Alejo fumbled the ball at the 50-yard line with 2:46 remaining. Two plays later, quarterback Shannon Patrick threw the ball toward the right sideline where wide receiver Devin Bryant broke several tackles and sprinted in from 47 yards out at 2:04 to cut the margin down to 21-7.
The Falcons closed the gap even further at 6:58 of the third quarter as wide receiver Antonio Burns pulled in a 16-yard touchdown reception. The extra point was no good and Forest Hill was behind 21-13.
Both teams exploded for a combined 27 points during the fourth quarter. Thompson rambled in with a score for the Lions on a 20-yard run at 10:55.
Falcons wide receiver Marcus Frazier raced down the field on two touchdown receptions on consecutive Forest Hill drives. He scored on a 64-yard catch at 9:14 and on an 82-yard pass play from Patrick with 7:06 left. A two-point conversion pass followed and failed as the Lions were still up 28-26.
Thompson capped the win for OH as he scored his fourth touchdown of the game with three minutes remaining on a run from 13 yards away.
