Original Marlins Spanish-language radio play-by-play announcer Felo Ramirez passed away Monday at the age of 94.. He took a nasty fall on a road trip with the team in Philadelphia on April 26 and never announced another baseball game.
Ramirez became the first Spanish-language radio voice for the Marlins in 1993 when they became a Major League Baseball expansion franchise. He was a play-by-play announcer with the team for the past 25 seasons. Ramirez announced both World Series that the Marlins won in 1997 and 2003.
He received the Ford C. Frick Award for baseball broadcasting from the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2001. Ramirez began as a baseball play-by-play announcer while in Cuba back in 1945. He announced more than 30 World Series in Spanish.
