The Washington Nationals edged the Miami Marlins 3-2 at Nationals Park on Thursday night. The Fish finished the seven-game road swing with a 2-5 record.
Miami(53-60) took a 2-0 lead in the third inning. Giancarlo Stanton blasted a two-run homer to left field on a 1-1 pitch to left field and Dee Gordon scored. It was the 39th home run for Stanton this year which leads Major League Baseball.
Washington(68-45) mounted a comeback in the bottom of the sixth inning. Brian Goodwin drove in Adrian Sanchez with a base hit into right field. Bryce Harper followed with a double into right which scored Goodwin.
The Nationals took their first lead of the contest in the eighth inning. Goodwin cracked a solo home run to right field on a 1-0 count.
