The Miami Marlins pounded the San Francisco Giants 8-1 at Marlins Park on Wednesday. The Fish finished their six-game home stand with a 5-1 record. Giancarlo Stanton had his streak of six consecutive games with a home run stopped.
The Marlins jumped out in front during the first inning against Giants starting pitcher Matt Cain. Marcell Ozuna got his 90th RBI of the season when he hit an infield single up the middle for Dee Gordon to score.
J.T. Realmuto followed with a fielder's choice to third and Stanton scored on the play. After a Brandon Crawford fielding error on a Derek Dietrich line drive, Tomas Telis sliced a double down the left-field line which brought in Realmuto and Dietrich.
San Francisco(48-74) put up their only run in the top of the third. Telis committed an error on a ground ball by Crawford to the right side and Jarrett Parker crossed the plate.
Miami(58-61) regained their four-run margin in the bottom of the third inning. Telis placed a single through the right side and Dietrich scored.
In the fifth inning, the Fish extended their lead to 7-1. Mike Aviles knocked in Realmuto with a single into right field. Ichiro Suzuki came up and drove in Telis on a base hit to left-center field. The Marlins compiled one more run in the bottom of the seventh when Aviles scored on a Miguel Rojas single to center.
