The Washington Nationals dominated the Miami Marlins 11-2 at Nationals Park on Monday night. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for the Fish.
In the first inning, Washington(79-51) got up 1-0. Anthony Rendon knocked in Daniel Murphy with a base hit into left field. Ryan Zimmerman got a run batted in on a ground out to short for Howie Kendrick to score in the bottom of the third.
Miami(66-64) scored their first run in the top of the fourth. Christian Yelich belted a solo home run to left field on a 1-2 pitch. The Nats answered back in the bottom of the fourth when Jayson Werth homered to left on a 3-2 count to bring in Matt Wieters.
The Nationals batted around and piled up six runs in the sixth inning to put the contest away. Kendrick cleared the bases on a triple which scored Wieters, Werth and Wilmer Difo to make it 7-1. Two batters later, Kendrick came in on a base hit by Murphy into center field. Wieters later drove in Murphy and Zimmerman on a single to center.
