It was a game between two of the top schools nationally as the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders got by the St. John Bosco Braves 9-3 in overtime at Brian Piccolo Stadium on Friday night. The game was televised on ESPNU and turned out to be a low scoring contest.
St. Thomas Aquinas(1-0) got on the scoreboard first at the 2:20 mark of the first quarter when Matt McConnell kicked a 37-yard field goal for a 3-0 lead. St. John Bosco(0-1) tied the game with their own field goal in the fourth quarter.
The Raiders were able to score in overtime. Quarterback Curt Casteel scored on a run from one yard away, however they missed on the extra point to make it 9-3. The Braves could not match it and get the ball into the end zone on their possession.
