Miami Marlins team president David Samson announced prior to the game against the Colorado Rockies on Saturday that team owner Jeffrey Loria has agreed to sell the franchise for $1.2 billion. The group of investors that are buying the Marlins includes former New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter.
The sale is expected to be approved by Major League Baseball in the near future. Loria has owned the Marlins since 2002 and the team won their second World Series title in 2003.
