The Washington Nationals swept the Miami Marlins with a 4-0 shutout victory at Nationals Park on Wednesday. Stephen Strasburg compiled his second career complete game. Miami(66-66) fell behind the Nationals by 15 games in the National League East and return home to face the Phillies on Thursday.
Washington(81-51) waited until the fifth inning to get on the scoreboard. Strasburg hit a solo homer to give them the lead. Two batters later, Wilmer Difo smacked a solo home run to left-center field on a 1-1 pitch. Difo extended his hitting streak to eight games with the round-tripper.
The Nationals expanded their margin to 3-0 in the bottom of the seventh inning. Anthony Rendon drove in Trea Turner with a single. The Nats added an additional run in the eighth as Alejandro De Aza scored from third on a passed ball with Strasburg at-bat to make it 4-0.
