The Palm Beach Central Broncos host the Atlantic Eagles at Bronco Stadium on Friday night in Wellington. Both Palm Beach County schools are looked upon to be near the top of their Class 8A districts.
It was two years ago that Atlantic reached the FHSAA Class 8A state title game in Orlando and lost to Dr. Phillips. They were shocked by Weston in the first round of the postseason last year and were eliminated.
The Eagles hosted a preseason kickoff classic last week against Broward County powerhouse Deerfield Beach and won 12-10. The team relies on how their defense plays and defensive lineman Henry Bryant will lead them. Ashlee Ritter, the first female player on their squad in over 15 years, can kick field goals.
Palm Beach Central had their season end last year at Deerfield Beach in a regional final. They fell at home to Miami Northwestern 36-6 in a preseason kickoff classic last week.
The Broncos lost plenty of talent on both sides of the ball, which included defensive back Akeem Dent, due to graduation. They will put an emphasis on their offense. Quarterback Anarjahe Douriet should connect passes to primary wide receiver Bryan Robinson.
